The National Outreach Programme (NOP) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is one of the most prestigious and transformative scholarship initiatives in Pakistan. Launched in 2001, it is designed to bridge the gap between world-class education and talented students who lack the financial means to afford it.+1
Unlike a standard scholarship, the NOP is a full-cycle fellowship that supports a student from the application phase all the way through graduation.
1. What the NOP Offers
The NOP is often referred to as a “140% Scholarship” because it covers far more than just the cost of classes. If you are selected as an NOP Scholar, LUMS provides:
- Full Tuition Waiver: 100% of your academic fees are covered for four years.
- Stipend & Living Costs: Monthly allowance for food and personal expenses.
- Hostel Accommodation: Free boarding at the LUMS campus.
- Books & Supplies: Funding for textbooks and study materials.
- Application & Testing Fees: LUMS pays for your admission test registration (LCAT/SAT).
2. Eligibility Criteria (2026-2027)
To be eligible for the NOP, you must meet two main pillars: Academic Merit and Financial Need.
- Academic Requirement: You must have secured at least 80% marks in your Matriculation (or equivalent in O-Levels).
- Financial Need: You must belong to a low-income family where higher education at a private university would be financially impossible.
- Timing: You must apply for the NOP while you are in the first year of your Intermediate (FSc/FA/ICS) or A-Levels. This is because the process starts a full year before you actually join the university.
3. The Step-by-Step Application Process
The NOP selection process is rigorous and unfolds in stages:
Step 1: The Online Application
Apply online at nopscs.lums.edu.pk. You will need to provide your academic records and detailed information about your family’s financial status.
Deadline for 2026 Cycle: The deadline is typically March 10, 2026.
Step 2: The Summer Coaching Session (SCS)
Shortlisted candidates are invited to LUMS for a two-week residential coaching session during their summer break.
- The Experience: You live on campus, attend lectures, and experience university life.
- The Preparation: LUMS instructors prepare you for the Admission Test (LCAT) and help improve your communication skills.
- Cost: The session is completely free (LUMS covers food and lodging; you only pay for travel).
Step 3: The Admission Test
After the SCS, successful participants are registered for the LUMS Common Admission Test (LCAT) or SAT. LUMS pays the registration fee for NOP candidates.
Step 4: Final Admission & Fellowship Award
Based on your LCAT/SAT scores and your final Intermediate/A-Level results, you will receive an admission offer. Once admitted, your financial documents are reviewed one last time to confirm your status as an NOP Scholar.
4. Why You Should Apply
The NOP doesn’t just give you a degree; it gives you a new trajectory. NOP graduates have gone on to win Fulbright scholarships to Harvard and Oxford, and many now hold leadership positions in multinational companies.
